Mounjaro
Tirzepatide is used for weight loss, appetite control and type 2 diabetes. People often feel less hungry and lose weight, though the loss is not all fat. It works on two hormone signals rather than semaglutide's one, and weight can return after stopping. Nausea, constipation, dehydration and gallbladder or pancreas problems are key risks.
Zepbound maintenance doses for eligible adults with obesity or overweight plus a related condition. These are not starting doses or an escalation schedule; Mounjaro diabetes treatment is a separate indication.
Large randomized obesity trials show substantial average weight loss with continued therapy; stopping therapy can lead to weight regain.
Gastrointestinal effects, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis warning, dehydration/kidney injury and boxed thyroid C-cell tumor warning based on rodents.
Weight/metabolic goals, glucose/A1c when relevant, hydration, GI symptoms, gallbladder/pancreatitis symptoms and medication interactions.
Approved in the United States for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management under distinct brand indications.
