Cabergoline lowers high prolactin and can help with hormone or fertility problems when prolactin is the cause. It lasts longer than bromocriptine, so treatment is usually less frequent. Nausea and dizziness are common; heart-valve problems and compulsive urges are more serious risks.
Adult hyperprolactinemic disorders. The label requires evaluation for valve disease before treatment; subsequent amounts and continuation are individualized. This is not preventive dosing for a cycle.
Placebo-controlled trials show dose-dependent prolactin suppression. Safety assessment includes orthostatic and valvular considerations.
Nausea, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, psychiatric/impulse-control effects and possible valvular risk with cumulative exposure.
Health problem link: confirmed hyperprolactinemia. Diagnosis should establish symptoms, repeated prolactin result and underlying cause; monitor per prescriber.
Approved for hyperprolactinemic disorders; not a routine prophylactic add-on to a cycle.
