Isotretinoin is used for severe acne, including the kind that can become difficult to control around steroid use. It sharply reduces skin oil, so dry lips and skin are common. Triglycerides and liver tests can worsen, and serious risks include birth defects, mood symptoms and muscle or joint problems.
The cited conventional capsule formulation for severe recalcitrant nodular acne. Absorption and labeled amounts differ between formulations; pregnancy-prevention requirements, lipids and liver testing are part of care.
Randomized acne trials support efficacy, but it can worsen lipids and liver tests—important when AAS already affect both.
Severe birth defects, dry skin/mucosa, triglyceride and liver-enzyme elevation, mood concerns and musculoskeletal symptoms.
Health problem link: severe acne under dermatology care; pregnancy controls where applicable, triglycerides, liver tests and mood/symptoms.
Approved for severe recalcitrant nodular acne with strict pregnancy-prevention controls.
